Often,
simply sharing your experiences and feelings with others can
dramatically bring clarity and comfort as you recognize that
others understand the path your life has taken. Many support
groups are specific to a particular diagnosis and open to
anyone on a walk-in basis. Or, you may choose our more
in-depth participant groups which require a commitment of
10-weeks per session for those who long for a more structured
program.
As with all of our programs, support groups are also open to
caregivers or loved ones who need additional encouragement and
hope. And, to make our services available for everyone, most
classes are available during daytime hours, evenings, and
weekends. Schedules change weekly so check our online calendar
for the programs that will make a true difference in your
life.
Sometimes, the most rewarding support activities aren’t
traditional support groups at all. That’s why we also offer
weekly Art Therapy, classes that explore spirituality and
dreams, and journal writing. And for the younger population,
we have Kids Circle -- a 4-week program that meets once a week
during various times of the year, allowing children from the
ages of 5-12 to interact in a playful, therapeutic setting
with other children whose families have also been affected by
cancer.
Regardless of the type of group you seek, we encourage you to
try these programs. You will discover they provide priceless
words of wisdom and insight from others who are trained to
support you and your loved ones through your challenges. Most
of all, you’ll gain friendships unlike any other you’ve
experienced in your lifetime.
Look below for a full list and description of the various
support programs we offer:
Weekly Groups:
To join a weekly group, please attend a newcomers meeting and
arrange for a personal discussion with the group’s facilitator
prior to your first meeting. Call 404-843-1880 to schedule an
appointment to get started!
Participant Groups
Weekly Participant Groups are groups that are ongoing,
committed support groups for adults with cancer who are
involved in the day to day fight with their illness.
Family Groups
Family Groups are ongoing, committed support groups for one
significant other-an adult family member or friend of the
person with cancer. The loved one who has been diagnosed does
not have to be actively attending TWC for a family member to
join a group.
Drop-in Networking Groups:
Drop-in Networking Groups can be broken down into two
categories: groups that are specific to a particular diagnosis
(i.e. breast, gynecological) and groups that are not specific
to a particular diagnosis. Some of the current networking
groups we offer are:
|
Breast Cancer |
Metastatic Breast Cancer |
|
Gynecological Cancer |
Spirituality |
|
Young Survivors |
Exploring Dreamwork |
|
Grief and Loss |
Blood Cancer |
