Frequently Asked Questions
What's your question?

I am not a patient at Northside Hospital.  Can I still participate in the TWC programs?
Although Northside Hospital provides funding for our facility, all cancer patients, their loved ones and caregivers are welcome to come and join in our free classes regardless of where their treatment is being managed.

I am interested in learning how nutrition supports cancer survival.  Does TWC offer nutrition classes?
YES!   You can sign up for individual nutrition counseling with Alisa Winters, MS, RD, LD of Northside Hospital.  She offers 30 minute sessions on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays each month, 4:30 - 6:30.   Call 404-843-1880 to schedule your session.  This personal nutrition program is made possible through a grant from It’s the Journey, Inc. – Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

I've survived breast cancer, but I feel anxious and even depressed!  Can TWC help me?
YES! When treatment ends, many women feel anxious, afraid and depressed about making the transition from being "ill" to living "well" again.  This is a normal reaction to the stress of recovering from a serious illness.  Please join us for a "Return to Wellness" on Wednesdays, 10:00am-12:00pm
Next Session begins January 9th, 2008. RSVP 404-843-1880.  Facilitated by Diane Malpass, Psy.D., L.M.F.T.  This program is supported by a grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure - Greater Atlanta Affiliate Click now for more details.

I know someone with a cancer diagnosis.  What can I do to help them in their recovery and survival?
Click now to learn how you can encourage your loved one or friend to benefit from our programs and services.  You can participate with them which makes it good for you as well!

What is the cost? How are your programs funded? How can I/my company make a difference?
A. There is no cost for any of the classes. The Wellness Community is generously funded through Northside Hospital, grants from The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Atlanta Affiliate, and It’s a Journey – Two Day Walk

Your donations also make it possible for us to offer services and programs free of charge.

Who is eligible?
Any cancer patient or survivor along with their loved ones, children and caregivers are invited and encouraged to participate in our programs.

How can I find out what programs are offered on a month-to-month basis?
Click now for the current two-month newsletter which includes a calendar.  You can also view special events and news to get offsite programs information and other hosted group opportunities!

I’m not comfortable in a support group setting. What do you suggest?
The Wellness Community offers the Virtual Wellness Community which gives free online support services for people with cancer and their loved ones. This service is led by trained professionals and is secure and password protected. www.thewellnesscommunity.org

My family is having a tough time with my diagnosis. What do you offer for them?

There is a four weeks Kid’s Circle group for children 5 – 12 to help them understand about the cancer diagnosis and there are support groups for family members and caretakers.  Click now for more details.

Why should I participate?
“People with cancer who participate in their fight for recovery along with their physicians and health care team will improve the quality of their lives and may enhance the possibility of their recovery.”
Harold Benjamin, Ph.D., Founder

What is The Wellness Community – Atlanta Northside?
The Wellness Community is a special community for cancer patients and their loved ones. Through participation in professionally led support groups, educational workshops and mind/body classes utilizing the Patient Active Concept, people affected by cancer learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce isolation and restore hope regardless of the stage of the disease. Most importantly, The Wellness Community provides a home-like setting for people fighting cancer to connect with and learn from each other. At The Wellness Community, all programs are free of charge.
