Educational Programs
(click now for current program highlights)

Being an educated advocate for your own health is one of the greatest things you can do for yourself when facing a difficult diagnosis. The Wellness Community-Atlanta Northside is dedicated to providing a variety of educational programs designed to make you strong and educated throughout your journey.

To help our participants gain as much knowledge as possible, we’ve developed several options that offer information on health as well as general information that is valuable to everyone.

Each month, we offer new programs with a different focus in an effort to educate participants on as many areas as possible. All are lead by experts who can provide you with valuable information on topics most find full of questions. Some recent topics include:

  • Advance Directives—The importance of Power of Attorneys and other documents
  • Clinical Trials—The facts behind Clinical Trails with opportunities for Q & A
  • “My the Roast Was Good Tonight”—Ways loved ones avoid talking about cancer.
  • The “Frankly Speaking” Series—Covers a different diagnosis each quarter.

We have ongoing programs that take place throughout the year bringing new information to our participants each week. Recent and current ongoing programs include:

LIBRARY
We are pleased to offer a library full of books, computers, literature and tapes designed to give you endless resources for knowledge. We have a full range of hardback books with topics ranging from specific illness to ways you can enhance your treatment towards recovery. The library also boasts an impressive catalog of fiction, biographies, and how-to selections to offer you reading choices outside of the world of health care. Feel free to spend the afternoon in a cozy setting relaxing with the latest New York Times bestseller, or check out your favorite titles to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.

Our internet-access computers are also free for you to use. Read up on the latest medical findings, check email while away from home, or simply lose yourself with an afternoon of “surfing the web”. Like all programs at The Wellness Community, the resources found in our library are free of charge and we look forward to sharing them with you and your family.

THE LINK
A cancer journey can be a time of questions and unsettling fears about what lies ahead. That’s why we developed “The Link”---a way for you to communicate with others who can understand your feelings and share their own positive story with you. We invite you to visit our library to browse through our mini-biographies of cancer survivors who have offered to “mentor” others through the maze of decisions, questions, and feelings of isolation they understand firsthand.

If you are uncertain about whether a support group or time with a licensed therapist is right for you, we encourage you to reach out to one of the members of “The Link”. Remember, studies show that people who are “Patient Active”—who truly take a more active approach by participating in their treatment—will improve the quality of their life and may enhance their chance of recovery.

“The Link” may be your first step in truly becoming “Patient Active”!
